Resources for Faculty: Instruction

The Information Literacy Team works with you to promote and support literacy across the curriculum by helping you build library research into assignments (see the Assignment Ideas page located under the Workshop & Instruction tab), or collaborate on a semester-long or one-time basis. Bring your students to the LWLC to work on one or two specific learning outcomes (e.g. finding scholarly articles using PsycINFO).

Research Instruction Sessions (To schedule a research instruction session, please see the calendar for availability and complete the IL Request Form.)

Skills and concepts that can be covered include:

  • Information retrieval (using tools such as the Library catalog and/or article databases) 
  • Effective web searching techniques
  • Evaluating resources
  • Copyright, plagiarism and citing sources
  • Concept mapping
  • Effective searching using Google and Google Scholar

Course Guides

Librarians create guides to highlight discipline-specific databases, e-journals, and Internet resources, and serve as a starting point for student research assignments. Contact us to find out how Course Guides can fit your students' research needs.

Session Policies

  • Sessions should be requested 5 days in advance (2 weeks for courses new to IL instruction) to allow library faculty time to prepare.
  • You must receive confirmation before bringing your classes to the Library to participate in a session.            
  • Faculty must attend sessions with their students.
