LibGuides: Best Practices: Reviewing and Publishing Your Guide

Once you have added all of your content and are ready to publish, there are still a few more steps that you need to take.

Of course, you can continue to make changes to the guide after it is published.

Preview Guide:

• Make sure to check that you have incorporated all of the Best Practices in your guide.
• To see what your guide will look like when published:
  • Click on the   in the top right hand corner of the page.
  • The preview page will open in a new window.

Get Feedback:

• When you are ready for others to review your guide:
  • Change the status from Unpublished to Private.
    • Click on the drop down menu labeled Private in the upper right hand corner. 
    • Select Change Status and Share.
    • Choose Private from the Publication Status menu.
    • Click on Save.
  • Send a request for feedback with the URL.

Give it a Friendly URL: 

• Use words that are relevant to your guide title. (e.g. "Implementation Group LibGuide" to URL/implementation)
• Enter a single word or words running together in the Friendly URL box. It will be appended to our subject guides URL as the friendly URL for the guide. (e.g alasu.libguides.com/friendly).

Publishing your guide:

• At the end of the feedback period and after you've made any changes, you can publish the guide.
  • Associate the guide to a subject category. (Click on the pencil next to Subjects. Select a subject category from the drop-down menu.)
  • Change the status from Private to Published.
  • Optional: Add tags (next to Tags at the top left). (Do not add tags until you are ready to publish.)
  • Send a message to Natasha Jenkins requesting assistance if necessary

Note: There is a feature allowing you to make an individual page from a published guide invisible from the public view. Click on Page  >  Do Not Show Page on Public Guide to hide the page from public view.
