Linkedin (http://www.linkedin.com/) is basically a social networking website for people to maintain and develop professional network and exchange occupational information. It’s available in 19 languages, besides English, there’s Czech, Dutch, French, Indonesian, Italian, Malay, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, and more.
Linkedin provides individuals and companies with a platform for networking, job searching, hiring, company research, and connecting with affiliates, including alumni, industry, and a variety of other business related groups.
In this tutorial, we are going to introduce you how to get started on Linkedin. Please feel free to contact us for further assistance or a workshop.
1. To sign up on LinkedIn, you will first need to go to http://www.linkedin.com/. Once you sign up to LinkedIn, next time when you need to go into your account, you will just need to sign in using your email adress and password.
Once you sign up on Linkedin, you are ready to create your own profile so that you can start using it to hunt for a job or to be hunted by a company.
Your profile on Linkedin is very much like your online resume so that you need to pay attention to it when you create it. Make sure 1) there is no typos; 2) all the information are correct and up-to-date; 3) the informatio is complete and detailed.
1. Creating your profile:
a. To create your profile, you will start with "Edit profile" found under "Profile" tab at the top of the page.
b. As you scroll down the page, you will find defference sections to fill in your information, such as Acticity, Summary, Experience, Language, Skills & Expertise, Education, Additional information. To the right of each section, you will see s pencil icon and a double-arrow icon. Click on the pencil icon, you can start to edit this section; cilcking on the double-arrow icon will allow you to drag and drop certain section to reoganize the order of sections.
c. Note that at the "Experienc" section, instead of a pencil icon, you have a "Add a postion" button. Click on this button, you can start to put in information of one position.
d. When you are done with editting, go ahead scroll back up and find the "Done editting" button and click on it.
2. Add your image onto your page
You are encouraged to add your images on your page. To do so, find the camera icon in your image box, and click on it.
You will be prompt to choose a file from your computer to put in.
Note: You are highly encouraged to put on a professional image of yourself instead of a very casural one.
After uploading your image, you can also set the permission for viewing the image.
Once you have everything set up, don't forget to "Save settings".
3. Make your profile public
The last but not the least, make your profile public so that you will be visible to companies and other individuals.

Click on the "Edit" button and you will be promt to your public profile page. There are two boxes at the right side of the page where you can customize and manage your public profile access.
To start applying for a job on Linkedin, you will first find the "Jobs" tab and under it, click on "Find Jobs" button.
Then you will be promt to "search for job" page. On this page, you are encouraged to use "Advanced search" where you can set limits for your search.
