Journals are often ranked by the following aggregates, or tiers:

  • acceptance rate
  • peer review process
  • mode of dissemination
  • support of professionals in the field

Top-tier journals (also referred to as first tier and tier 1 journals) are considered the most reputable sources in which to published. These are followed by tier 2 journals, tier 3 journals, and so on.
