LWLC Liaisons & Subject Specialists

Instruction @ the LWLC

  1. When you add a session to the IL calendar, please be sure to include the following information, as well as a location: Your last name, the instructor's last name, and the course number (Platt/Smith LPL 775). We need this information for our statistics.
  2. Make sure that an Infomation Literacy Request Form is submitted for each individual session. Each form allows up to three entries for the same course.
  3. Request a 2-week notice from teaching faculty for IL sessions to give yourself time to prepare a high-quality session.
  4. After an IL Request Form has been received, liaisons and subject specialists are encouraged to complete an Information Literacy Session Plan to help them organize their IL session activities.
  5. It is important to conduct brief pre-tests and post-tests to measure effectiveness. These may be easily created and/or copied and modified in LibWizard.
  6. Inform teaching faculty that we tailor our sessions to address their immediate concerns and the concerns of their students, so IL sessions are much more effective when scheduled for a research assignment.
  7. Full class times are recommended (but not required) for IL sessions to allow students to fully engage with new concepts and new methods. Multiple sessions for classes are also an option.
  8. IL sessions may be taught in the Lecture Hall, in room #328, in a computer lab, or in the classroom/computer lab of the course instructor. Your preferred and requested space must be reserved in advance.

Use the Information Literacy Session Plan Form to develop your library instruction session in consultation with the course’s instructor.

It is important to conduct brief pre-tests and post-tests to measure effectiveness. These may be easily created and/or copied and modified in LibWizard.

Use a pre-test and post-test to measure student learning in your information literacy sessions. Make sure to include the same items/questions on both tests to get an accurate understanding of student learning in your classes.

If you need tips on how to create pre-tests and post-tests, please let me know: jplatt@alasu.edu.
