Since 2007, the Culinary Historians of Chicago have designated June as National Soul Food Month.

What is Soul Food?
 
 

The term "soul food" became popular in the 1960s to "honor the ways African-American cooks transformed unwanted cuts of meat and unglamorous veggies into delicious meals during slavery." (Food.com)
