June 2016 - What's Happening @ LWLC: LGBT Pride Month

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Pride Month is celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan. The riots were a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movemement in the United States. The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals have had on history.

Library of Congress - LGBT Pride Month collection includes the papers and contributions of Truman Capote, Audre Lorde, Margaret Meade, Kay Ryan, Walt Whiteman, Frank Kameny, and Bayard Rustin. 

StoryCorps - LGBT Collection includes recordings and blog posts from members of the LGBT community. 

Human Rights Campaign -  A national organization working for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Equal Rights.

Equality Alabama - A statewide human rights organization working to gain equal rights for Alabama's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender citizens. 

Central Alabama Pride - Working to promote pride within and understanding between lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities and all other communities in central Alabama through education, public forums, and social activities. 

GLBT Advocacy and Youth Services - A comprehensive community service organization located in Huntsville, Alabama which serves the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer community.
